Vineyards of Côtes de Bourg
Blaye - Côtes de Bordeaux
On the edge of the Gironde estuary, the citadels of Bourg and Blaye lend their names to three neighbouring wine Appellations* and one Denomination**.
The hilly landscape of this area is full of testimonies from a rich past: the prehistoric cave of Pair-non-Pair, caves dwellers settlements, the Gallo-Roman villa of Plassac…
Served by the beneficial influence of the estuary, the overall terroir of the 3 appellations has fairly homogeneous structure with sails predominantly clay-limeston and clay-gravel or sandy nuances. Merlot, the king grape of the region, flourishes remarkably. Red wines are deep in colour, full-bodied, with rich flavours.
As for the white wines, formerly the main yield, they have a strong power and structure. Generally with an intense and powerful aroma, their finesse and rich lingering flavours really stand out.
